An Answer and an Action Are Not the Same Thing

The one distinction that separates "AI is a chatbot" from "AI is about to reorganise how you work."

Here's the smallest idea that explains the biggest change.

An answer is a paragraph. You ask, it responds, it waits. You're still the one who has to go and do the thing.

An action is different. You give a goal, and the AI does the multi-step work to reach it - opening things, running things, checking its own output, correcting course - and comes back with the outcome, not the instructions.

An answer waits for you. An action goes and changes something while you're not looking.

Almost everyone still lives in the answer world. It's comfortable there, and it looks a lot like the search box we've used for twenty years. The action world barely registers yet - which is exactly what makes it the interesting place to be standing.
